Lost Implanon Implants

Implanon is a birth control implant manufactured by Merck & Co., Inc.

The implant is similar in size to a matchstick and releases a progestinhormone to prevent pregnancy. It is implanted in the arm. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Implanon in July, 2006.

Merck and related manufacturers marketed Implanon to women and their physicians as a safe contraceptive option that is “reversible” and able to be removed whenever a patient changes her mind.  However, as described in recent litigation, Merck knew or should have known about the propensity of Implanon to spontaneously move after proper insertion and become lost in the body with no way to find or remove the implant.

Woman with lost implants are at risk for serious and potentially permanent injury, including neural damage, vascular damage, ectopic pregnancy, fertility issues and the inability to stop a drug-related adverse event or complication.

We believe women with lost implants are entitled to compensation.  This compensation is essential to help shoulder the substantial cost of medical treatment that is needed to try to find the implant, surgically remove it, or treat resulting damage from an irretrievable implant.  As a result, we have agreed to represent multiple women in claims relating to lost Implanon implants.
